ABOUT CPAKC

Serving Klickitat County

The purpose of Goldendale’s CPAKC team is to help build healthy communities in Klickitat County, and reduce the risks and harm caused by substances of abuse. We do this by increasing awareness, reducing access, and building pathways to wellness and healthy choices for the community.

How do we succeed?

Our team uses a multidisciplinary approach between government officials, educators, treatment providers, community members, law enforcement and others to achieve the following goals:

  • Working with youth, schools, family and law enforcement to educate and reduce the risks youth have in being exposed to or have access to substances of abuse;

  • Education of youth and county citizens to the dangers of substances of abuse;

  • Provide resources and referrals to treatment for people who abuse drugs and alcohol;

  • Provide resources and referrals to counseling of the families and loved ones of people with a substance use disorder; and

  • Eradication of the production, supply and demand for substances of abuse in Klickitat County.

CPAKC is a Cohort 6 Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) coalition. Formed as a collaboration of the Klickitat County Drug Awareness Team (KCDAT) and the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP), CPAKC is the longest standing coalition in Klickitat County for over 14 years.

CPAKC members represent many sectors of the community including schools, youth-serving organizations, civic/volunteer groups, law enforcement, government, religious organizations, healthcare professionals, and parents/guardians.

CPAKC continues to recruit and invites interested community members to participate in monthly meetings and prevention activities. We encourage anyone who would like to participate to contact the coalition.

Our community in Klickitat County

Goldendale is the county seat of and largest city in Klickitat County, Washington, which is 29th of 39 counties in terms of population and is 16 th in terms of total land area. Situated just 13 miles north of the Columbia River, the rural agricultural community of Goldendale is a traveler’s last real city before leaving Washington and entering Oregon along Route 97.

Going north up HWY 97 Satus Pass (elevation 3,107’) and 70 miles separate Goldendale from Yakima, the nearest major city in Washington. Goldendale sits about 100 miles east of Portland and west of the Tri-Cities. Goldendale got its start as a watering stop on the Yakima-Okanogan wagon trail and now almost 7,500 people call the greater Goldendale area home. Boasting majestic views, there are points in Goldendale where the mountaintops of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Helens are visible.
